The second project concerns strategic conversations
And the third is narrative psychoanalysis
I am currently at Stanford's Media X Project as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar where my focus is on enhancing the role of understanding humans in the technology-society relationship. I also consult on organization strategy, and keep my practice of individual psychoanalysis. I spend about two days a week at Stanford and the rest on the Russian River.
The site attempts to convey the complexity of thinking and actions necessary, I believe, in a messy and fascinating world, a world where we do not talk with each other enough, and revert to lone-cowboy leadership that is too intent on sub-maximization. The refocus on the value and complexity of humans, and the appropriate vigorous use of technology and organizations for humane ends, are critical. We can do better. The world is more of an enigma where by cooperation we can develop, than it is a battleground for truth where we constrain each other.
I have participated as a professor, therapist, consultant, social thinker, and artist. I think of it as a three level focus informed by stories - as a threapist emersed with individuals in their personal drama - as a consultant helping organizations be more stategic - and at the societal level, where politics and philosophy come together - all tied together by the discipline of storing telling - that is, the arts as a source of models, and discipline coming from science. I see my task as integrative, from physics to psychoanalysis, to consulting and teaching., and now writing. GardenWorld has emerged over time as the integrative framework. The world and society should be a garden. I am fortunate to get to experiment with a garden on the Russian River near Duncans Mills.
Current work can be found through the navigation below, and, most actively, at the weblog. The raw stuff there is input to the papers here, which tend to be a bit more organized. There have been several iterations of the blog, and I will try to gather a good index. For the moment, for the history, look at my previous blogs, now serval years old, at radio userland and Bubbler.
